July 14th 1982: HMS Plymouth arrives home to Rosyth with an incredible welcome. Easily one of the hardest working ships of the task force, she bears her scars well... not bad for a ship which was claimed sunk with all hands a month before.

On this day in 1943, aircraft flying from USS Ranger (CV-4), destroyed 5 German ships and damaged another 7 during Operation Leader in Norway. USS Ranger was the U.S. Navy's first purpose-built carrier and the only one from the pre-war era not to engage the Japanese in battle.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
