On this day 10 years ago in 2014, Aircraft Carrier HMS Illustrious entered HMNB Portsmouth for the last time, ending 32 years of service and marking the end of the Invincible Class's service to the Nation.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
