HMS Protector sailed from US Naval Station, Norfolk, yesterday, and will return to the Southern Hemisphere following deployment in Canadian Arctic.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
