On this day in 1945, the Japanese surrender marking the end of major fighting in all theatres of WW2. Royal Navy sailors from HMS Duke of York celebrate with a Fly Past a few weeks later.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
