On this day in 1982, USS Houston (SSN-713) on sea trials stalking the last conventionally powered US Navy aircraft carrier, USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), as she heads out on deployment.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
