On this day 30 years ago the Royal Navy era of operating Diesel Electric submarines ended as HMS Unicorn entered HMNB Devonport for the final time after diving for the last time earlier that day. HMS Unicorn and her sisters were transferred to Royal Canadian Navy where she still serves.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
