The Royal Navy’s submarines will continue to be armed with one of the world’s most advanced torpedoes after successful trials of the next-generation Spearfish weapons system. This means that the boats can now meet the latest threats at sea.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
