On this day in 1996, a taxi driver spotted an abandoned North Korean submarine stuck off the coast of Gangneung, South Korea. For 49 days, the ROK Army pursued the sub's Democratic People's Republic of Korea . 24 infiltrators were killed and one was captured. One may have made it back to North Korea.
