The Royal Navy has 2 of these essential Damage Repair Instruction Units to train our sailors how to recover the ship after damage. They are in HMS Raleigh Plymouth and HMS Excellent in Portsmouth.

05 March 1999: at sea - USS Enterprise (CVN 65) (right) and USS Detroit (AOE 4) (center) conduct a replenishment-at-sea, as Nicholas (top left) begins her approach. Enterprise Battle Group is operating in the central Mediterranean Sea.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
