On this day in 1971, HM The Queen launched the 1st Royal Navy Type 42 destroyer, HMS Shefield at Barrow. Once the slip was clear it was used to lay down her sister Hercules, built for Argentina, who agreed for parts to be diverted from Hercules to Sheffield so as not to delay launch.
