On this day in 1972, the worlds first Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) warship, HMS Wilton, was launched in Southampton. She set the standard for all MCMs & all Royal Navy MCMV are now GRP. Paid off in 1994 she is now the HQ for Essex Yacht Club at Leigh on Sea.
