HMS Anson, the fifth of seven Astute Class nuclear-powered submarine, has sailed from Barrow-in-Furness to begin her journey to His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde near Glasgow.

On This Day in 1918, the newly commissioned HMS GLATTON suffered a fire in a magazine whilst in Dover. Due to the proximity of an ammunition ship she was torpedoed by Vice Admiral Keyes to prevent a larger disaster. She was moved later and now rests under the current ferry terminal. Loss of 98 men.
