On this day in 1942, the Royal Navy Escort Carrier HMS Avenger is hit by a torpedo fired from U-155, and is lost in only 12 minutes. The speed of the loss was caused by explosion in the bomb room and resulted in 526 men lost with only 12 survivors. Lest We Forget.
