German corvette FGS Magdeburg departs from Devonport yesterday morning for day 1 of Operational Sea Training delivered by FOST.


 

On this day in 1941, U-570 surrendered to RAF bombers after being damaged and forced to the surface by depth charges. After being commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS Graph, the captured U-boat provided the Allies with important intelligence about German submarines.

Both Róisín class OPVs were at Verolme Dockyard. Acute personnel issues with the Irish Naval Service mean not a single ship at sea.


 

Seven Archer Class P2000 Patrol Boats are preparing to ride North for the Summer where they will spend a fortnight sailing around Scotland’s coastline, providing an opportunity for important Operational Training for their crews.

HMS Middleton has completed her 6-week Deployed Docking Period in Bahrain with an overlaid Capability Insertion Period. Collaboration between BAE Systems, Royal Navy and BASREC ensured essential maintenance was completed to keep her mission-ready.

August 28th in 1976, the Soviet Echo II-class submarine K-22 collided with the frigate USS Voge (FF 1047), Souda Bay, Crete. The Soviet captain attempted to avoid the collision by ordering an emergency dive but rammed Voge's port quarter. Both vessels suffered severe damage.
