On this day in 1991, Type 42 Destroyer HMS Gloucester destroyed an Iraqi Silkworm missile bound for USS Missouri with her Sea Dart missile system during Op. Granby. The first Gulf War.

Today in 1999, HMS Bangor was commissioned. She was the last RN Ship to be accepted in the 20th Century. Of the 12 RN Sandown Class Minehunters built only BANGOR remains in service as mine-hunting moves towards autonomous vessels from mother ships.
